This and the other two Twisted Spaces novels tell a compelling story, however: It seems evident that English is not the author's first language, and while he does better with it than many native English speakers, the places where his English fails him become a distraction to an otherwise interesting storyline. (e.g. "save" where "safe" should be used.) I could pick a few minor nits with the story itself (speculation, never resolved about the true source of Twisted Spaces technology, the protagonists uncanny ability to wind up with the smartest, sexiest member of the team after his previous partners die in some noble, self-sacrificial way, etc.) Overall, however, nothing that a good editor couldn't fix. One of the finest Sic Fi series that I have ever read.
Second in this excellent series. Lots of adventure, some great action, and good storytelling. Looking forward to the third in this series. Highly recommend.
Second book is suffering from the series problem. It's slowed down from the wonderful inventions and concepts of the first into something of a travel and shoot Em up with space bound shipping logistics. Don't let this put you off. I'm definitely up for book 3.
After the first book of this series I was somewhat perplexed and was left with so many questions unanswered. I decided to try this second book. I almost did not finish because although the storyline is interesting, the rest of the fluff is just plain aggravating. Not going to waste my time on the next one.
I like the story, but as this series of books continues, there are more and more typos and grammatical errors. Doesn't anyone even use spellcheck anymore? I find it very distracting to keep stumbling across this type of sloppiness.
I read the first book for free. I was intrigued. Not the normal Sci Fi shoot em up. This series is a story of ingenious engineering and exploration. The second book has a small cost. No matter... It follows our group of inventors and explorers. Again... Very little violence or conflict. The two books explain quite believably the invention of drives and other systems to overcome space flight difficulties. All this is done to promote exploration. Both books well though out, excellently written. I am about to purchase book three. I think Mr Abel can keep this story going for several more books.
This is a marvelous story. It looks like the author deserves to be included with such authors as E. E. Doc Smith, the writer of the Skylark series, that was the first Science Fiction I read some 60 years ago. Such authors as Anne McCaffrey, David Weber, and Barbara Hambly have written series that have the enjoyment of this series. I look with great wonder how the next novel of this series will develop.
